Five Essential Reasons to Attend Live Events

Five Essential Reasons to Attend Live Events

Hello folks!

Well I’ve finally gotten around to getting a new post online! Apologies for the delay. So, without further ado, onto the subject of today’s post…

live eventsWe live in an ever-increasing online world, especially if we’re involved in Internet marketing. There are companies that once would have had a traditional bricks and mortar business but operate entirely online. Some businesses that once operated on the high street have even taken their entire operations online and become completely ‘virtual’.

A big part of our online world is social media. New networks seem to be cropping up all the time and, for some people, social media is an integral part of their lives. Take Facebook away from some youngsters and you’d think the world was coming to an end!

In the Internet marketing space, there’s no denying that social media plays a huge role and it is something with which we should familiarise ourselves and take advantage of if we aren’t doing so already. The scope for furthering our reach and getting our brand, message or products out there is phenomenal. However, there’s something to be said for the good, old-fashioned approach too.

Attending Live Events

live eventsAttending live events is something that has literally changed the lives of many people. My coach and mentor, Dean Holland, met up with Alex Jeffreys at a seminar and his life was changed dramatically for the better. Alex, too, got his big break as a result of attending a seminar. I could go on to list many ‘household names’ who attended seminars or networking events and had life-changing experiences.

I attended my first ever event in November 2013. It was here that I was able to meet Dean Holland in person for the very first time. Although Dean is very approachable online, there is no substitute for meeting someone in person and being able to chat in a relaxed environment. I also met people with whom I’d end up connecting further down the line.

I attended my second event just a few weeks ago in March and found this to be a truly invaluable experience on so many levels.

Suffice it to say, if you have ever attended something like this then you’ll likely know exactly where I’m coming from with regards to the many benefits. If you haven’t, then just why should you make an effort to do so?

Five Reasons Why You Should Attend Live Events

live events• 1) The training that’s presented. This is the obvious one. The quality of the presentations varies from event to event and from speaker to speaker, just as you’d expect. Some events have more of an emphasis on sales pitches than others, but even those can provide a lot of good, valuable content. If you get an event that features a lot of top Marketers delivering good content all in the same room, then this is something that’s almost priceless, especially when you consider how much it can sometimes cost to buy training from these people individually.

live events• 2) Networking. For me, this is one of the most beneficial and most powerful aspects of live events. In this modern age of social networking we should never forget that behind those social profiles, viral videos, funny cat pictures and laughing babies are real, flesh and blood people. Well, what better way to connect and build relationships with real, flesh and blood people than actually connecting with them in person?

Just a few weeks ago at the event in Manchester, UK, I made some hugely valuable connections that will be sure to end up being mutually beneficial down the road. It’s also great to talk with like-minded people and share ideas. Of course you can do that from the comfort of your computer, but there’s really no substitute for getting out there and mingling in person. Plus, some of those people you connect with could end up being future joint venture partners somewhere down the road.

Of course, it makes sense to take along a supply of business cards or some other promotional media to give out. John Chow once spoke about giving away books instead of business cards. Whatever you choose to use, live events are perfect for actually getting something physically into people’s hands.

live events• 3) Motivation and inspiration. If you ever feel short of ideas or you feel that you need a booster then attending a live event can be just the tonic you need. Listening to the presentations can really help you to recentre yourself and feel excited again if you’ve found yourself feeling a bit dejected or tired. Also, just being with like-minded persons, especially those who are at a similar stage to yourself, can really help to give you a sense of camaraderie, knowing that there are other who understand just where you’re at right now. Plus, you can do the same for them and you can feed off one another’s experiences, enthusiasm, suggestions, etc.

live events• 4) Social proof. Name-dropping can be a very powerful thing when done right. If people see that you’ve been hanging out with some of the big names in the industry then this can automatically send you up a few notches in how people perceive you. You can become successful by association.

At the last event I attended, I met up with someone whom I’d connected with via a mutual coaching program and Facebook group. This was the first time we’d met and it was really great to meet him in person. In many ways we are both at quite similar stages in our online journey, however he spent a lot of time over the weekend doing something very clever and it’s something I wish that I’d done myself. He went photo collecting! What I mean by this is that before attending the event he’d decided that he was going to get photos of himself with as many of the speakers and other well-known attendees as possible. This collection of photos will be a valuable promotion tool for him.

live events• 5) Extending your reach. This is kind of linked with points 2 and 4, but this is specifically to do with how you yourself are perceived by others and how you can take the opportunity to establish yourself further. Don’t forget that you want people to get to know you and, ideally, to perceive you as being an authority. Of course you don’t want to pretend you’re something you’re not, but it’s perfectly fine and, indeed, a good idea to capitalise on whatever you can leverage at the time.

At both events I attended I was pleasantly surprised to have people approaching me and telling me that they recognised me from various places online, whether it be my blog, Facebook or that they couldn’t even recall exactly where! But having already made some kind of impression upon people online and having them being able to link that with you ‘in the flesh’ is very powerful and will likely help them to remember you. And it goes both ways. People who have met or simply seen you at an event may well end up recognising you online at some point later, thus connecting with you, subscribing to you or buying from you when perhaps they wouldn’t have paid as much attention if they had never met/seen you at an event.

Trust me, when someone makes that connection and gives you some positive feedback, it really gives you an enormous boost and can be a real ‘shot in the arm’. You can instantly go from feeling like a fish out of water to being ‘one of the guys’ – an equal rather than a newbie.

Join Me!

Now, bearing all those points in mind, how would you like to catch up with me in person next month? Yep, that’s right! Over the weekend of June 28th/29th 2014 here in Manchester in the UK, you can meet up with me in person at a live event hosted by my mentor, Dean Holland.

Automated Income SeminarBy now I’m sure you realise just how powerful live events can be. It was exactly this kind of event that Dean Holland himself attended and prompted him to take massive action and end up making a decision that was to totally change his life.

This will be the first event that Dean has presented totally by himself and is sure to be crammed with priceless training that will leave you going away with plenty of “A-ha!” moments and plenty of motivation.

Usually with these kind of things you get a load of different speakers, all of whom want to pitch you something at the end of their presentation. But this event will be different – it’s going to be two days of solid, actionable training presented just by Dean Holland himself.

If you have the opportunity to get there, don’t pass it up. Not only will you benefit from the two days of solid training from Dean but you’ll get to meet other successful Marketers who will be in attendance and also others who are at a similar stage to yourself. As I said above, the networking opportunities these kind of events provide are really priceless and it isn’t an exaggeration to say that people’s lives have literally been changed by getting themselves to one.

So mark your calender, secure your ticket and join me in Manchester on the weekend of 28th/29th June 2014. I look forward to seeing you there!

  1. Hi Glenn,
Great to hear why you think attending live events can be so beneficial. If I’d ever attended any I’m sure I’d agree whole-heartedly. As it is I’ll miss Dean’s shout in Manchester since I still have a dreaded job so I’ll be looking forward to another one in the near future, possibly closer to the south-west of England.

In the meantime I’m going to start looking at more of AJ’s student’s sites and pick up the nuances and interpretations of his great training, whilst also working my way through MWA 2.0 – a great (as in tremendous and as in huge) piece of training to go through.

I look forward to meeting as many of you as I can in the near future.

    Regards,

    Steven

    1. Hi Steven,

      Thanks for stopping by, buddy.

Sounds like you have a good strategy there. Many people have gone on to do some great things as a result of Alex’s training. It was his teaching that give me my kickstart and I’ll be forever grateful that I discovered both him and Dean.

You’re right, MWA 2.0 is a mammoth course to go through, packed with insane value. Stick with it and keep pushing forward. I look forward to seeing your success in the near future! 😉

    1. Hi Mark,

Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting.

I agree, Neamat’s blog is totally excellent! In fact, Neamat is a good example of someone who knows how to network effectively online. I have no doubt that she’s just as good at it in person too. Good networking is essential, both online and off.

Thanks again for stopping by. I’ll head on over to your blog shortly and look forward to checking it out. 🙂

  3. Hey Glenn,

Most of the live events I’ve been a part of although the speakers did share a few good things they mostly just enticed us into wanting more of what they were promoting and of course were selling it outside on the tables. I don’t like those types of events for goodness sakes. I think I would rather have a setting such as the one Dean is putting on where it’s good solid training for two straight days.

I do enjoy the networking and I’ve also experienced people coming up to me saying they’ve seen me all over the internet and were happy to meet me in person. That was always a fun experience too.

I’m glad you’re enjoying these events as well and I’m sure you’ll get plenty from this one as well. This isn’t something I have on my agenda at the moment but maybe down the road. Not sure what direction I’ll be going after I release my own product but we’ll see.

    Have fun.

    1. Hi Adrienne,

Yes, it does seem that many events are geared towards selling. Of course, I wouldn’t begrudge someone highlighting their product, but I think that good, solid, valuable content should come first and foremost. Having only been to two events so far I haven’t witnessed a complete ‘ptich-fest’ but I hear that it happens all too often.

I await the release of your product with bated breath. I have no doubt it will be great, as will whatever you do afterwards. 🙂

  4. Hi Glenn,

I am so happy to be back and visit your blog!! And I consider myself lucky to come and find such a great post about live events.

Indeed, live events charge your energy and motivate you to take your business to the next level. Only one time I attended a live event and I want to say, it changed my mindset about this business and the network and internet marketing.

I wish I was in England, I would have sure come to attend that event. Have fun and enjoy it and recharge your energy and all the best in taking your business to the top.

Thanks Glenn for a wonderful post!! Enjoy the event and for now enjoy your weekend!!!

    1. Hi Neamat,

Welcome back – things weren’t quite the same without you! 🙂

It’s a shame you can’t make it here, it would have been great to meet you. I’m really looking forward to it as I know Dean will deliver awesome content as always and it will be good to catch up with people I’ve met before while also connecting with ne people.

The motivation aspect, as you mentioned, is an important benefit. Working online can be a lonely existence so it’s important to get out there and connect with people in person.

Thanks for stopping by Neamat. Talk to you again soon!

  5. Hey Glenn,

You certainly make attending a live event attractive.

I think one of the most exciting things about an event would be hanging out with other people who really understand why we have the interest in what we do. People who really “get us”. Lord knows my wife doesn’t understand it, she thinks I have an addiction.

Although I’ve been on Dean’s list for a while, I really got to understand how much he has learned that makes him so successful when I recently participated in his Quickstart Challenge. His webinars were extremely enjoyable and informative. It’s what gave me the drive to get my blog back up.

I highly recommend this event to anybody who is considering it. I’m sure it will be very rewarding.

Although I won’t be able to attend this time, I hope to soon. I’ve wanted to visit the UK for a long time.

Hope you have an amazing event.

    Thanks, buddy. – Steve

    1. Hi Steve,

You’re spot-on – hanging out with people who ‘get’ us is so refreshing! Sometimes it feels like you’re fighting against the current trying to explain IM to people who don’t understand. So often I see them trying to feign understanding behind their somewhat blank expressions!

It really is good to be able to chat with like-minded people, people who share your enthusiasm and can actually contribute to that enthusiasm rather than making you feel deflated, which can so often happen from people outside the industry if we allow it.

Dean is really one of the best, in my mind. I think that what makes a big difference (and he’s by no means unique in this) is that he can relate to where so many people are coming from, having been in desperate and dire straits in the past. He needed to learn this stuff, he took action, got out there and made it happen. I truly believe that anyone can go on to do this, if they just follow what he teaches.

I’m sorry you won’t be able to make it to Dean’s event, I’m sure it’s going to be a good one. It would have been great to meet up with you, but not to worry, I’m sure there will be other chances in the future. 🙂
