Moving Ever Forward

Hey everyone!

Well my head is spinning right now! But it’s doing so in a good way. I’m currently getting so many ideas about how to move forward, where I’m going to be in the near future and how I’m going to get there. A lot of things are gradually falling into place and it’s so exciting to see! I’m learning SO much from being associated with Dean Holland, I really can’t recommend his training highly enough! Also what I’m learning from Alex Jeffreys is equally mind-blowing and motivational and again, I can’t recommend his training highly enough. There are other Internet marketers who have some great products and training and I have a lot of info from all these too. So my head is spinning, not only from the excitement and ideas that I’m experiencing, but also that there is so much fantastic information that I am privy to, it’s really awesome stuff that I’m learning. However, I am trying to be careful not to overload on all this info as it’s such an easy trap to fall into.

So I thought I’d just give a bit of summary as to where I’m at right now compared to where I used to be. I’ve been wanting to be my own boss now for about 20 years and was fascinated by the discovery of direct marketing. Now, I didn’t really have a clue about how to get into this and to be successful with it, but I knew that I liked the concept and I could never shake the idea, it was something that I kept coming back to. As a result I bought many books, reports, etc but nothing really gave me the help and direction that I needed. But I learned from it all, either from the pieces of valuable information that I could take away or from the many mistakes I made during this period.

It was probably around 2000 where I came across the concept of making money on the Internet. Just to provide a bit more of my background here, I have around 27 years of computing experience and am a qualified PC engineer with a qualification in both hardware and software installation and support. I am also a person who has a very strict set of ethics and this is something that I am passionate about in the world of business. I believe that the customer should always be put first and I often despair when I see businesses not doing this. So when I discovered the world of making money online it was almost a natural shift to try to enter into this world, what with my experience and interest in the computing side of things coupled with my increasing interest in business.

Again, I made many purchases over the years and did a lot of research but again, nothing really helped me and I was only able to pick out the valuable bits and pieces from what was mostly hyped rubbish. Again, I learned a lot from my mistakes.

In 2011 I discovered the Warrior Forum. If you’re not a member there yet I highly recommend that you go and sign up. It can be a little daunting and overwhelming at first but once you get used to it and get involved, it’s a fantastic place to be. If you have any questions or need any help then just leave me a comment below. Through the Warrior Forum I actually found, for the first time, some genuine marketers who offered some genuinely good and helpful products and courses. So I made a few purchases and actually felt that I was finally getting somewhere.

Things were about to slow down to a virtual halt in the latter part of 2011 when my mother became seriously ill. She had already been battling with various health issues for a number of years, the main one being that she had a couple of leaking valves in her heart. She had a repair to her one leaking valve in 2003 but the stress of the surgery caused another valve to start leaking and it would be very difficult to operate on this one. Over the next few years it continued to slowly deteriorate and the valve that had been previously repaired started to leak again. So naturally this affect her quality of life to a huge extent and after my father’s death from cancer in February of 2008 I became my mum’s carer. The nature of her heart problem meant that her blood needed to be kept at a thin enough consistency so she took the drug Warfarin to control this. In the latter part of 2011 she started to exhibit some odd behaviour and upon being admitted into hospital and having a brain scan it was found that she had a subdural haematoma which was as a result of the thinness of her blood. The hospital sent the scan over to another nearby hospital where they specialize in brain surgery and they agreed to perform surgery on my mum.

After a traumatic few days of worry it seemed that the surgery had been successful and my mum woke up and eventually seemed to return to her old self. After three months in hospital she returned home and slowly started to return to normal, although I had to do a lot for her of course. In January of 2012 she again started to behave oddly and again she was admitted to hospital. To cut a long story short, she was diagnosed with post-traumatic epilepsy resulting from her surgery. Without going into all the details here, the next four months were absolutely horrendous and after a particularly bad episode my mum was again admitted into hospital. It was discovered that what had actually been causing these latest batch of problems since January was, in fact, an infection in her brain. In May the organs in her body just started to fail one by one and she passed away on 15th May 2012.

Now I haven’t recounted all that to be depressing or to gain sympathy. In fact, to be honest, I hadn’t intended to say so much about my mum. But my mum was an important part of my life of course, and this time period was a significant part of my life too. I want to connect with my readers here and I’m happy to let you in and learn a bit about me as a person and not just as some guy trying to get started in Internet marketing. And maybe I needed to write all that down and get it out there? Anyway it’s there now and it’s okay.

So after all that happened with my mum and after I sorted out a few things that needed dealing with afterwards, I was able to look ahead once again and resume my Internet marketing journey. And it was at this time that I discovered Alex Jeffreys and, in turn, Dean Holland. It is not an exaggeration to say that these guys have changed my life. Although I’m not a millionaire right now and, heck, I’m not even making any money right now from Internet marketing, I have absolutely NO doubt whatsoever that I will do and it will be soon. Now, no matter how good the course or teacher, the one vital component that must be implemented is ACTION. No-one else can do this for you. You could have the best training in the world from the best teacher in the world but if you don’t do anything with what you learn then what good is it? But the great thing about Alex and Dean is they have taught me the ‘whats’ and ‘how tos’ that have been obviously missing from so many of the things I’ve tried to learn from in the past. It is not an exaggeration to say that I have learned and accomplished more in the last 6 months than I have in the last 10 years and I really don’t think I would have done so without the help of Alex’s and Dean’s teaching. So Alex Jeffreys and Dean Holland, if you read this then THANK YOU!!!

So where am I right now? Well I have a WordPress blog. A year ago I didn’t have a clue about what WordPress was, let alone about how to set up a WordPress blog on my website. I have configured it, tweaked it and customized it. I am getting traffic to my blog. 6 months ago I didn’t have a single clue about how to do drive traffic. It’s not coming in floods yet but at least it’s consistent and I’m learning more all the time about this. I now know about building a mailing list. Again, 6 months ago I didn’t have a clue about any of this and had no idea about the value of it. Although I’m not yet going down this road I now know about solo ads and paid traffic. 6 months ago I had no idea about this stuff. I also have much more of an idea now about product creation. 6 months ago I wouldn’t have had a clue where to start. But now, this is going to be my next thing. In the next few days I’m hoping to have my own product put together and made available for you to download here. And the best part is you won’t have to pay a penny, I’ll be giving it to you completely for free! Now I don’t claim to be some kind of expert. I’m certainly not an expert and, as I’ve maintained constantly since starting this blog, I’m a newbie who’s just starting out. But I have learned a lot over the years through the bits I’ve picked up and through my own mistakes and, as I’ve stated emphatically already, through the teachings of Alex Jeffreys and Dean Holland, among others. So I’ll be putting together what I do know and I’m sure that it will prove useful to some of you who, like me, have been wanting to get going in Internet marketing but perhaps have needed pointing in the right direction. So look out for that in the next few days and please don’t forget to leave a comment below, I always love to hear from visitors πŸ™‚ My apologies for such a long post this time, but hopefully it’s proven useful in helping you know a little bit more about me as a person and my experiences in getting started with Internet marketing.

Talk soon!

  1. Glenn,

My man, you have an awesome story here dude. Good to hear about your moving forward and learning so much stuff. Yes, I thoroughly enjoy AJ’s stuff as well and am moving in the right direction with implementing what it is that I’ve learned. I too am about to embark upon some paid traffic to get things amped up too. I am thinking of solo ads and will investigate them soon. Take care and keep up the great work.

P.S.-I am about to get my first product finished up as well. I need to get some graphics done and hopefully by the end of February, I’ll have it finished and my opt in form installed on my blog. Hopefully.

    1. Hey Jerry,

Great to hear from you again bro πŸ™‚

I’ve recently been through some awesome solo ad training with Dean Holland. I’m concentrating on the free approach at the moment but Dean’s training will be invaluable to me when I eventually start using solo ads. Just like Neil who commented above, I’m taking baby steps one at a time for the moment. But each step feels like a great stride due to my newly-found knowledge and understanding, which is being added to all the time. For the first time ever since I started getting into IM, I actually feel like I almost know what I’m doing! I’ve still a way to go and I’m sure I’ll make mistakes along the way, but at least I’ve an idea now of what I’m doing instead of pretty much ‘flying blind’ like I was before.

I can’t wait to see your product my friend, I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for that! All the best with it, I’m sure it will be fantastic πŸ™‚

    1. Hi Neil,

Thanks for visiting and for leaving a comment. Much appreciated!

Yes you really do have to be careful with the old information overload trap. I think that people think that it’s just down to there being so much rubbish churned out at us – which is true – but you have to be careful with the good stuff too! There’s really not much point in buying 10 different courses, all of which being fantastic, but becoming overwhelmed so you just get confused and disheartened and do nothing with any of them. The greatest course in the world will do you no good at all if you don’t take action on what you learn but this can be the result if you get bogged down by lots of products, no matter how good they are. I find that it’s better to just stick to one or two and keep focused on progressing and taking action on that. I know that I’ve definitely come along in leaps and bounds since doing this.

Keep going Neil, you’ll do great things I’m sure! πŸ™‚

  3. Hey Glenn,

sorry I forgot to ask …

How do you get that little picture to show up at the left hand side of the windows tab?

    If it’s cheap and easy – I want one – lol πŸ˜‰

  4. Hi Glenn,

yep, a particularly moving post for me to read, as I could have been reading about my own dear Mum who sadly passed away three years ago in almost the exact same set of circumstances.

But moving on, GG above is absolutely right – just good old plain honest simple truth is where it all begins. People like people, and their stories are what makes them totally individual.

Keep it going, keep posting, keep learning, and don’t give up under any circumstances.

    All the best pal.

  5. Hi Glenn,
Nice post, here’s what struck me….

There is nothing better than being genuine and yourself, it creates the best type of engagement.
Don’t apologise for a long post!
You can either break it up into more posts, or if it flows all as one, leave it!
You could easily develop this into a report detailing your story – you have maybe combined your IM journey so far with your personal background in one here.

As you say – moving ever forward!
    Cheers,
    Gordon
P.S. I don’t see you in the QSC facebook group?
