I was just thinking about people’s perceptions regarding making money online. Let me ask you a question: Internet marketing and making money online – are they the same thing? I think that this is a very important question as your view on this can drastically affect your approach to your online business. It was only recently when I realized that, although they are obviously closely connected, they are two different things. In what way? Well to answer that, let’s examine where your focus lies. In running an online business or trying to start one, are you focusing on making money online? Or are you focusing on Internet marketing? You see, if you focus on making money then your attention will be primarily directed at this. Now, while it’s quite true that our aim is, of course, to make money, it’s quite possible to focus on marketing and not be making any money in the short-term. As an Internet Marketer you absolutely must give attention to your marketing first and foremost. It may be that by doing this you aren’t doing anything that is giving you immediate results and making you money now, but good marketing will allow you to lay a solid foundation for your business, build relationships with your prospective buyers, JV partners, etc and you will be constantly learning about how to market and run your business better. After all, this is a business and if you approach it with that mindset then your chances of success are greatly increased. In contrast, if your focus is on the making money aspect then you’re likely going to end up in a cycle of buying endless courses and ‘shiny objects’, just going round in circles of frustration rather than moving forward towards your goals. Sure, keep your monetary objectives in mind, but don’t let this be your primary focus. Rather, focus on marketing your business and you will be more likely to have a steady stream of income later.
