Currently I’m still working on getting more visitors to my site here but hopefully the few visitors I’m getting so far are finding my content useful.
So, where am I up to? Well I have discovered two things that I’ve fought against getting into previously but now I couldn’t do without them! They are Google Analytics and mindmaps. Now, why did I resist getting into these things? Well it was mainly down to ignorance on my part, simply not appreciating the real value of these tools and making assumptions that either a) they would be too much trouble to learn and b) I didn’t really need them. How wrong I was!
So, what is Google Analytics? For those who don’t know, basically it’s a free service provided by Google that accumulates statistics on your website and allows you to analyze the various aspects of it. For example, it provides info about the number of visitors you get, how long they stay on your page, what part of the world they’re from and how they got there. So, for example, if you have your site linked on various blogs Google Analytics will tell you which visitors came from which blogs. Very cool! Now for the seasoned pro or someone who’s already very familiar with this service it may see like a kind of “duh!” moment, but for someone like me who had no idea of its usefulness before, this is a revelation and I now see how invaluable it is for anyone who is serious about running a business online. So I would highly recommend that you get it if you haven’t already!
Now, mindmaps. “What’s all the fuss about?” I used to think. I understood the purpose of mindmaps and how they work but just couldn’t see how they would benefit me. I already have a very visual, analytical mind, so I just couldn’t see the point of mindmaps for me personally. That was until I tried one for myself….. I received a free mindmap and decided to play around with it. My curiosity was piqued so I started to experiment with a hypothetical mindmap. Before I knew it I was on my way to actually working out how I was going to create my very first product! So, the moral of the story is if you, like me, are sceptical about the merits of mindmaps, just try them out for yourself. Maybe you won’t find them of any use to you, but you won’t know unless you give them a go. I will definitely be using them all the time from now on when planning anything to do with my business. I recommend the excellent XMind. There is a paid version but I find that the free version is more than adequate.
So, why the “turbo-charge Glenn” subject for this post? Well I’m so excited right now and really feel that I am “turbo-charged”! In a previous post I mentioned that I’d been spinning my wheels, so to speak, in Internet marketing for a long time and have only recently started to gain any real traction and move forward. Even so, I’ve only felt as though I have been in first gear. If you’ve ever driven a vehicle equipped with a turbo then you’ll know the feeling you experience when the turbo kicks in – that sudden rush of speed and power you feel go through the vehicle as it zooms away! Well I feel like a “turbo” has just kicked in with my online business progress! How so? Although the results aren’t in yet, in the background there is some very, VERY cool stuff happening. As I mentioned earlier, I have been working out how to create my very first product! It’s still very much a work-in-progress, but it is progressing and that’s the important thing. It will be aimed at the complete beginner and is still open to ammendment so if there’s something that you think would be useful to be included for someone wanting to start out in IM then please let me know by leaving a comment below. If it’s something that I already know then I will be sure to include it! 🙂
There’s something else that has me SO excited! This is the really cool thing and the real “turbo”. I’m not going to say any more about this for now, but suffice it to say it’s huge! I’ll keep you posted! In the meantime, please don’t forget to comment and if you’re a newbie then please let me know what sort of things you’d like to learn and would like help with.
To your success!
