EMA Podcast 003: “One Surefire Way to Avoid Failure”

One Surefire Way to Avoid Failure

avoid failureHi everyone!

Depending on which part of the world you’re in, this podcast is either on time or late! It should have been publish earlier but… erm… I actually forgot that today is podcast day!

I was all prepared to publish a post on an entirely different subject, then I remembered that I should have been recording a podcast.

So, next week you’ll get some video training on a few basic audio tips that should help you if you’re struggling to make yourself heard, plus a few other little bits and pieces too.

Anyway, I’ve made sure to get everything done before I even think about going to bed – you see what I’m prepared to do for you guys? 😉

That actually leads us nicely onto the subject of this month’s podcast.

Without going into things too deeply now, the subject of this month’s podcast is: Failure. More to the point, how to avoid it.

There can be many contributing factors to failing, but there is one absolute, surefire way to avoid it.

Have a listen to the podcast to discover what it is….

I hope that you enjoyed this podcast about how to avoid failure.

An important thing to remember is, even if you apply what I cover in the podcast, it won’t guarantee that you’ll achieve any particular results that you are aiming for. But what it will guarantee is that you’ll get results.

I’ll leave you to ponder that. 😉

Until next week!

  1. Hi Michel,

I don’t think anyone truly fails so long as they keep trying. They may not achieve what they’re aiming for, but an action-taker will always gain something, even if it’s only experience of how not to do something. Giving up and doing nothing, on the other hand, will 100% result in failure, which is what we don’t want.

Procrastination is another dangerous tendency and I’m certainly guilty of this myself at times. I’m getting better, though, by making sure I concentrate on what matters right now and dealing with that rather than allowing my mind to be all over the place.

You’re right, running into problems can certainly stop people from taking action. You and I both know how that can happen, both of us having had health issues and having a sick relative to care for. But those things are just unforeseen problems that we can’t help and it’s vital to not allow ourselves to become too discouraged when things like that happen. Just deciding to give up or not to even try, on the other hand, is totally within our control.

I love the idea of problems being opportunities in work clothes! That’s a similar way of thinking to John Chow, who says that he doesn’t see problems, only opportunities. Brilliant!

Thanks for stopping by and for your great comment. I hope you’re getting enough rest and have a lovely weekend. 🙂

  2. When I first saw the title of your podcast, I originally thought that it is from failure that you find success – why would you want to avoid failure? Then I heard the podcast which you speak about inaction which is a guaranteed failure… something that can be avoided.

Another relative to inaction is procrastination which often leads to failure as well, but for different reasons. Running into problems can cause some people to stop taking action. I, however, see problems as opportunities in work clothes.

Overall once I got the meaning of your definition of the type of failure you highlighted, it is something you want to avoid doing (or is it lack of doing) 😉

    Great podcast by the way!

  3. Hi Glenn,

First I want to tell you that you have a wonderful voice and I enjoyed this podcast.

Lack of action will be a sure way to fail. I like the way you explained the fears that cause people to lack action.

Oh boy I love Sean Mize! And yes that fear that something is not going to be perfect is something that holds so many people back. I like his suggestion about giving your product out and asking people questions. Oh boy…I have to do that one!

“Don’t get it perfect…just get it going” Is one thing we need to have in our mindset. If it isn’t perfect…take action and get it going. I am happy to share that I did get over this in my own mindset.

I also like your advice on keep on moving, through obstacles. Obstacles will always be there, and when we have this in our mindset we can indeed push through them.

    Great share and thank you,

    1. Hi Donna,

Wow, such a nice compliment, thanks so much! 🙂

Yes, I’ve learned a lot from Sean Mize. I’ve probably bought more of his products than anyone else’s, but for good reason. As you know, his teaching is so easy to follow, is actionable, honest and to-the-point. Like so many good Marketers, he takes an holistic approach to things which mean that he will always think of how he can best benefit the other person and do things the best way for himself.

Yes, keeping moving is vital. Just as keeping on the move is vital for our physical health it’s vital for our progress in reaching our goals too. If we just stay put, we stagnate. After all, you can’t move past an obstacle if you’re stationary, can you?

Thanks for your visit and great comment. Have yourself a wonderful weekend. 🙂

  4. Love the quality of your audio Glenn. It is very professional and easy to listen to. You share some very key nuggets inside your podcast today.

One being that we shouldn’t wait until everything is perfect. As A.J. would say, you don’t have to get it perfect, but get it going.

I never forgot those words as well. They are constantly before me when I get the notion to drag my feet about something that needs to get done.

Yes, I am somewhat of a perfectionist, but I’m learning that in the online marketing space, your biggest asset are you customers, readers, viewers, etc.

They will let you know how something can be improved. Your job is just to put the product out there. Their feedback will make, mold and shape it into the final product.

Every major company does that. Especially Apple. That’s one of the very reasons that you have so many versions that still to this day comes out. All of that is based upon customer feedback.

Why do we think we should run our businesses any other way? They’ve proven that the model works, so why try and re-invent the wheel?

We shouldn’t. Just do it and let the feedback flow….

    thanks for sharing G,

    1. Hey Jerry,

Many thanks, it’s good to know that people are finding my stuff easy to listen to. And, of course, it’s even better to be getting good feedback on the content! 😉

That’s a good point about Apple. I don’t like the company myself, but there’s no denying that they know what they’re doing when it comes to marketing, that’s for sure. Talk about not getting it perfect but getting it going – look at the first iPhone. That thing wasn’t even close to perfect! But it sold like crazy, was hugely popular and secured itself in a corner of the market, providing a good, firm foundation upon which to build, improve and expand.

Thanks for your valuable comment Jerry, take it easy, bro. 🙂

  5. Hi Glenn,

Great podcast on how to avoid failure and how we must take action in order for things to happen.

Inaction will guarantee failure. We have to go through the obstacles and keep moving forward. We have to throw away fear and doubt.

We have to just jump in there and push ourselves forward.

I love what Alex Jeffries said “don’t get it perfect just get it going”. I think I misspelled his name but that is OK.

I loved the music too in the podcast. The sound of your voice with the music in the background, sounds so perfect. You should keep the music playing all through the podcast. It sounds so professional!

    You have an awesome weekend,

    1. Hi Linda,

Thanks for the kinds words and compliment. With regards to the music, no, I won’t have it playing in the background all the time because I want people to focus completely on the content. I have heard some podcasters play music through their entire podcasts and I’ve found it to be, not only distracting, but sometimes even annoying. That’s largely because their choice of ‘music’ has been abysmal and/or they haven’t known what they were doing to mix it properly. Either way, it was a distraction and, at the end of the day, it just isn’t needed. Think of how it’s done on the news – the music will usually play at the beginning and through the programme overview, but as soon as they get stuck into the main content that they want you to pay attention to, it goes off.

I’m so glad you enjoyed the podcast. I’ve no idea what next month’s will be about but I’ll try to make it a good one! 🙂

  6. Hi Glenn.
Nice short and to the point podcast. I almost get the feeling you were thinking of my entry in my last post about my yet-to- be-created free product when you recorded this one. Probably just my paranoia sneaking in. Lol.

Like you, I also learned the “Don’t get it perfect, just get it going” saying from Alex’s training materials. Time to put it to use.

Keep up the good work with these podcasts. You’re a natural at it.

    Have a great weekend……Chris

    1. Hey Chris,

In all honesty, no I wasn’t. But, now you come to mention it…. get it done!!! 😉

Yep, we’ve learned some invaluable stuff from Alex. We know it works so we need to act upon it.

Thanks for your compliment. I am very, very used to speaking, performing, being recorded, etc so it makes sense for me to do podcasts really. Like anything else, it required stepping out of my comfort zone into new territory, but now I’ve done it all that’s left for me to do is keep coming up with valuable content and not forget to do them (which I almost did yesterday)!

Have a great weekend, buddy. 🙂
