2 Keys to Success

Successful Blogger, John Chow Reveals Two Keys to Success

successHi everyone!

For this blog post I thought I’d try something a little different. Who knows? Maybe it will catch on! On the other hand, it could be a total disaster, but stay with me and I’ll let you know what I have planned…

So, this evening I was on a webinar with Internet marketing legend, John Thornhill. Amongst other things, he talked about many of the excuses that people often have about why they can’t be successful online. This reminded me about a video I watched a couple of days ago by John Chow. John’s reputation precedes him and his is one of the blogs that I visit regularly. I pick up so many cool things, especially from his videos and I highly recommend that you check him out if you haven’t already done so.

Okay, so what is my cool idea? Well I thought that, rather than me waffling on, I’d try a little audience participation. Sort of like an interactive blog post, if you will. So here’s how it will (hopefully!) work…

I’m just going to share John Chow’s video below. By his own admission it’s more of a ‘rant’ video, but I picked out two major points that, I believe, are essential to success. What I’d like you to do is to leave a comment saying what the two keys are and what your thoughts are about them, etc.

I believe that whether you’re a total beginner, an experienced Marketer, making money online or still yet to make anything, focusing on these two key points will be of huge benefit.

So now it’s over to you. Did you spot the two keys to success? Let me know in the comments below!

Thanks!

Glenn

    Hey Glenn,

    Fantastic share.

I hadn’t watched this video till today, but I had something similar in my first video, that I did a couple of days ago.

The understanding that we’ve got to create something of value, rather than continuously consuming info. There is nothing wrong in learning or researching, but if that means buying everything in sight, and buying ‘push button’ systems thinking they will make money spit out of the computer screen is just plain crazy.

Every successful entrepreneur is successful because they constantly add value to the market place, and have carved a ‘tribe’ or a following for their ideas and solutions.

By the way, I keep hearing about the great things you’re doing as part of the iPro program. Keep up the momentum. 🙂

    Ben.

    1. Hey Ben,

I’m SO sorry, my friend! I have no idea why I’ve only just seen this comment from you from October!!! But I’m not going to leave it without replying, so better late than never, as they say!

You’re so on point regarding creating instead of consuming. I have to admit to being a bit of an ‘information junkie’, I love to consume as much info as I can.But you’re right, it’s absolutely no good unless we do something with it!

I like your point about successful entrepreneurs and it’s interesting that you liken their building their following to carving. That’s the only way to do it, to carefully spend time in creating a work of art rather than just hacking away with an axe!

Yep, there’s some good stuff happening in iPro. I’m so grateful to be a part of it, Dean’s teaching has helped me no ends. 🙂

Thanks for commenting on this, Ben and so sorry again for the mega late reply!

  2. Hi Glenn,

I actually visit John’s blog just to listen to his episodes. When I got started blogging I purchased his blogging course and still find myself using it.

What I got from the video is consistency and working towards your goals regardless of how long it takes. As long as you are willing to put in the action and keep working you can reach your goals.

Thanks for sharing, his videos always inspire me.

Hmmm. For me, it’s passion and consistency. Then everything follows.

    1. Hey James,

Passion and consistency are certainly important. I believe you certainly won’t get very far without them! Add to them determination and taking action and I think it’s a winning formula 🙂

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy.

  4. John does nail the number one reason people fail in online businesses. They invest the time they should put into learning and then implementing a proven strategy looking for a shortcut.

I love a quote by Amway legend Jim Janz, “Everything turns around for you the day you decide to stop doing your best, and start doing what it takes.”

    1. Hi Cole,

That’s an awesome quote, thanks for sharing it. He’s right, you need to start doing what it takes. Related to that, one of my favourites (which you’ll see me mention a lot!) is from Alex Jeffreys: “Don’t get it perfect, just get it going.”

We can end up spending so much time learning, planning, tinkering, preparing, etc that we don’t spend anywhere near enough time, if any at all, doing what is MOST important of all – DOING!

Thanks for stopping by, Cole and sharing that with us 🙂

  5. Awesome video Glenn and the biggest thing I got out of it was to don’t make excuses but take the necessary action. The road to success is just that…..a road. Enjoy the journey and reward yourself in the process. Don’t let the nay sayers hold you back, but keep your focus on where it is that you are going. It will pay off in the end, IF you do what is required of you. Thanks for the post my man.

    1. Hey Jerry,

Absolutely spot-on, my man! The only time you’ll end up fulfilling what the nay-sayers tell you is if you actually pay attention to them and allow them to influence you. Taking action and doing what’s required is the only way to go and there’s really no excuse for failure. Ultimately, the only sure-fire way to fail is to stop or not doing anything in the first place.

Thanks for your visit and comment as always, buddy.

    Hey Glenn,

I do agree with John. We have to do whatever it takes (As along as it is honest :D). There is no magic bullet to achieve success – online or offline. We have to work hard. We have to take action.

Like John mentioned, people are lazy and impatient. They want to become rich now. But, we all know it doesn’t work that way.

We also have to give our best effort into the things we do online (of course, each time we stretch our limit, we redefine our “best” effort). If we don’t succeed, try harder. And if it doesn’t work after some tries, try some other strategy (we need to know when we should quit trying – if one method doesn’t work, there will be another one that works).

Anyways, thank you for sharing the video 🙂

    1. Hi Jeevan,

Welcome to my blog, buddy 🙂

You included an essential component in your comments: “As long as it is honest”! Honesty is an absolute necessity, a non-negotiable aspect for me. But aside from that, yes we need to take action, put in our best efforts and never give up. Just this evening I saw a great quote, though I don’t recall where I saw it! It went something like this: “Failure isn’t falling down, it’s not getting back up again.” So, no matter what, we need to keep on going and, as you say, if one method doesn’t work then there will be another one that does.

Thanks for your awesome comment, Jeevan 🙂

      Kind regards,

  7. Great video Glenn. Knowing WHY is the key for me. Most want to make money but when the money is not flowing in the give up. Why? They have no why. You must want to be free, and feel that feeling now, to move into action despite obstacles. The challenge becomes easier if you know why you want to succeed.

    1. Hey Ryan,

Awesome comment, buddy! Knowing your “Why” is an absolute must. In fact, I did a blog post on this very subject a few months back. Sure, people want to make money online, but WHY do they? That realisation can make all the difference between success and failure.

Many thanks for stopping by and sharing your valuable insight.

      Kind regards,

  8. So what I heard is 1) do whatever it takes – there is no magic bullet. Of course, I agree. I’m an action kinda gal. Tell me what I need to do and I will do it. The 2nd thing I heard is ‘the system works if you do it.’ Maybe a better way to say it is – if you don’t get started, it won’t get done. Seems like common sense and perfect advice to me. So simple and yet as John says ‘people just want someone else to do it.’ Sad that these people will continue to struggle and then knock the systems they claim don’t work. Good info.

    1. Hi Barbara,

Taking action is the only way to be! You’re absolutely right, it’s common sense and perfect advice, yet far too many people just don’t ‘get’ it. They want that miracle, push-button system or for someone else to do everything for them but unfortunately they’re headed for disappointment.

Not so long ago I heard Alex Jeffreys refer to having a mailing list being as near to a push-button system as you can get. But you still have to take action and put the work in to get it! Whatever we want to achieve will always require action and work of some kind – no excuses, just plain, old-fashioned grit and dedication.

Thanks a million for taking the time to visit my blog and share your thoughts, it’s much appreciated.

      Kind regards,

    1. Hi Emmanuel,

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. John’s certainly a leader in his field and I’m surprised that some people criticise him. He’s proven that he walks the walk, his methods work and he always gives great value in all he does. I suppose, just like anyone, not everyone will relate to him, but they can’t deny that he knows his stuff and his success really speaks for itself.

All the best with your continued blogging, Emmanuel.

  9. Okay Glenn, don’t be upset with me but I had a HARD time understanding everything John said. Of course I turned on closed caption and that’s a joke when you’re trying to decipher a heavy accent. Yeah, have I ever told you I’m hard of hearing! Well I am and it’s bad so sometimes it’s really hard for me to understand what people are clearly saying so I’m going to apologize for not totally getting it.

But I did read the above comments and get an idea of what John was trying to say. I caught bits and pieces of it but not the whole thing so I’m taking away from this to take action and get it done. Now I’m an action taker and will stick with it till the end but I’m nowhere near the level John is.

I think just having the right information and taking action will get you there much faster but that’s where life comes in. It’s never guaranteed.

Thanks Glenn for this and hope you have a great week.

    1. Hi Adrienne,

I’m sorry you have hearing difficulties, I didn’t know. I can’t imagine how frustrating that must be. I’m a musician and I value my hearing so much so I really do empahise with you.

You’re right, John does have quite an accent. Funnily though, I always find him to be quite clear and easy to understand. But perhaps if I was hard of hearing then it would be a different story.

I haven’t known you for long, Adrienne, but already I know that you’re an action-taker for sure! I also know that you have quite a substantial amount of respect among bloggers, so you’re clearly on the right track – taking action and getting it done!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, always a pleasure 🙂

    2 Keys To Success

    1. READ…..

    2. FOLLOW….

    enough said…

    1. Hi Bella,

It sure is, right? Sometimes people need it though.

Far too many people have problems with both those point you mentioned, even though they’re straightforward. Then there are those who get stuck at number 1. I can’t recall who it was, as I’ve been on a few webinars this last week, but one of the webinar hosts highlighted a very important point: reading won’t make you money.

Too many people spend far too long ‘working’ when they’re really just reading and reading and reading. Of course education is important but I always remember what Alex Jeffreys says (and I use this a lot myself too): “Don’t get it perfect, just get it going”. So it’s the taking action that leads to success, doing whatever it takes to get there, of course following up on what we’ve learned.

Thanks for stopping by, Bella 🙂

  11. Hi Glen,

I really like John Chow. He is such a no-nonsense marketer. I also liked his course.

Of course the most important point he makes is about taking action and do everything you need to do to complete the task no mater what. At least do the best you can (although I am sure that John does not just do his best, he’ll have it done no matter what). And this sort of attitude distinguishes the mediocre from cream of the crop. This applies to life in general.

By the way I like your new scripts. They look very sharp on your site.

    1. Hi Dita,

It’s interesting that you mentioned about the sort of attitude that distinguishes the mediocre from the cream of the crop. I was actually thinking about this very thing earlier on today and came to a realisation. Well, more of a question: Are there actually fewer really big, successful online entrepreneurs than we sometimes think?

I got to thinking about those who perhaps do well enough to live off (we’ll call these the “mediocre”) in contrast to to those who are clearly making it mega big (the “cream of the crop”). I’m sure that we could all come up with some names of the ‘cream’ who are really standing head and shoulders above the rest. So why is that? What makes them different? It’s their “no matter what” attitude for sure.

I, too, like John Chow’s no-nonsense approach, it’s clearly served him well. I try to display that but there’s clearly much, much room for improvement. But John’s videos always spur me on, as do Dean’s webinars and videos also.

Thanks for your valuable input, Dita, always a pleasure 🙂 Let’s take no prisoners and really crack this thing, eh?

      Regards,
      Glenn

      P. S. I’m glad you like my tweaks. There are a couple more on the way…. 😉

  12. Hey Glenn,

I like your concept, but it does put one on the line. With that said, here goes:

I got three concepts to success online. The first was doing what ever it takes to get it done. The next one was try your best, you can only ask for doing your best. You have to do it. Success comes from you actually doing something. And finally, it is a journey where you learn and grow. Enjoy yourself along the journey.

As extra credit, I liked his comment when he said that you can make a lot of money off of lazy people because they are always looking for that magic button or secret formula to success when the answer is actually before their very eyes.

Thanks for the post, I enjoyed the journey.

Great to see you here, buddy.

Thanks for ‘playing’ 😉 There’s not going to really be a definitively right or wrong answer as everything John says is spot on and each person will probably get their own little ‘gems’ from it. I think that the points made in this video are very valuable indeed to anyone wanting to make money online. But they’re useless unless we take action.

Thanks for your awesome input, Michel.
