How to Avoid Guaranteed Failure

How to Avoid Guaranteed Failure

Hello folks!

avoid guaranteed failureMany, many people have tried, are currently trying and will to try to have their own successful online business. However, not everyone will succeed. Of course, we all want to do all we can to avoid guaranteed failure, no?

So then, what is the single biggest cause of failure?

A lack of knowledge?

Not enough money to invest?

An inadequate teacher?

Not enough time?

All of those reasons and many more can certainly contribute to a lack of success. However, not one of them is necessarily an excuse for failure. Even all of them combined aren’t necessarily an excuse for failure.

There is only one thing, above all else, that will absolutely guarantee failure.

avoid guaranteed failureA lack of action.

While all those other things may work against you, make things hard and even mount up to such a degree that you just can’t seem to get past them, they themselves don’t guarantee failure. I’m sure that if you were to ask any successful entrepreneur if he or she has had an easy ride, they will tell you that they’ve had their fair share of difficulties, knockbacks, setbacks and disappointments.

There is one way, though, that problems and difficulties will definitely cause you to fail. That is if you allow them to stop you from taking action.

Inaction is the only way to absolutely guarantee failure. After all, you cannot succeed at something if you haven’t attempted it, right?

Usually, inaction is caused by fear and doubt – a fear of not knowing enough, being criticised, the possibility of things going wrong, a lack of confidence and so on.

If you are experiencing any crippling factors that are preventing you taking action, what can you do to overcome them?

avoid guaranteed failure“Don’t Get It Perfect, Just Get It Going”

If you’ve been following me for any length of time you will have likely noticed that this is one of my favourite quotes from one of my mentors, Alex Jeffreys. It was taking that on board and forcing myself to have a shift of mindset that got me to actually start this blog in the first place. Now, while I’m not yet hugely successful, I have achieved a lot and one thing is for sure – if I hadn’t just got things going, I wouldn’t be where I am now.

I do have a tendency to want to get things ‘just right’ before letting them loose, so to speak. But applying those wise words from Alex Jeffreys has enabled me to take action on various occasions and get positive results. If something isn’t perfect, well it doesn’t matter. I can tweak things as I go along. The key is taking action.

“Don’t Try to Reinvent the Wheel”avoid guaranteed failure

I’m sure you’ve come across this phrase before. It’s such a simple sentence, yet so very profound, especially when it comes to aspects of business.

Just why is it that the wheel does its job so well? Because it works!

Sure, there can be variations and modifications but essentially, a wheel is a wheel. Why do so many people use them? Because they are hugely successful in performing their function. A wheel does its job perfectly.

The same is true with many aspects of business. We can become so swept up in trying to come up with our ‘angle’ that it prevents us from doing anything at all. This isn’t to say that we shouldn’t try to have our own angle or even completely new ideas. But there is a reason why certain business models or strategies are successful – they work, plain and simple.

So don’t fret over trying to come up with a whole new idea. It’s better to apply an existing method and work on polishing it as you go along rather than spending time agonising how to come up with something completely new and unique and ultimately accomplishing nothing. Furthermore, whatever you do, so long as it’s your own work, will always have a unique element to it because there is only one you. Put your own personality in all you do and there will be people who respond to that.

Final Thoughts

avoid guaranteed failureAn obstacle is only an obstacle when it’s in your way.

So, you’ve come up against an obstacle? Go over it, around it or even through it! If all else fails, take another route entirely. But don’t allow it to stop you completely.

Keep moving and you will always get somewhere.

Don’t move and you’re 100% guaranteed to get nowhere.

I’ll conclude with another of my favourite quotes, again I’ve mentioned this one a few times: “You don’t have problems – all you have is opportunity.” – John Chow.

  1. Hi Glenn.

Great post. I also took Alex’s advice and got my blog going.
Not pretty, but it’s there, as you know. One of my problems in the past with trying to make money online was, other than not enough knowledge on how to do it, was no driving force a.k.a. goals to keep me motivated. Also, when I did have some knowledge, I didn’t work with it and that’s where I failed for so long. It wasn’t until I got Alex’s first email and free course on making money with information products, that I really started to believe I would be able to do it. Now that I’m part of iPro, I know I can and will succeed because I have my driving force, getting out of the taxi by the end of 2015. Yes, I’ve hit a few bumps already, but I’m not ready to throw in the towel. The hunger is strong to succeed. BTW, I’ve made a whole $41+ as an Amazon.com affiliate. LOL!! Even though I’m focused on iPro, I figured I might as well keep my Amazon affiliate store going, just for laughs. Anyway, I’m rambling again.
Talk to ya soon. Let’s kick ass in 2015!!!!

    Have a good one….Chris

    1. Hey Chris,

Yes you definitely need goals. You need to know your ultimate “why”, that is, your one big reason why you’re doing what you’re doing. Next, you need to work out a strategy that incorporates smaller goals to help you get there.

It was Alex’s teaching that helped me to reevaluate my concept of making money online and my approach to it. Then it was Dean who gave me the leg up. Stick with what he’s teaching you, never give up and you WILL reach your goal!

Yes, you may as well keep going with Amazon. If it’s money coming in, then it’s money coming in, right? That’s not to be sneezed at!

Great stuff, Chris. Keep taking that action!

  2. Hey Glenn,

Inaction is certainly our worst enemy!

As you already know, I am having problems with sticking to my routine…achieving my goals (there is little bit of discouragement from not achieving my goals, then there is procrastination…and a lit of tiredness from everything).

I am planning to catch up this summer (looks like I have got a lot of things to do). But, the good thing is that I don’t have to worry about college or anything…not taking any classes for the summer, so plenty of time.

I am still planning every thing..create a routine so that I can stick to it everyday 😀 Hopefully it will work out!

Perfection…oh, yeah. I have had problems with that. I do know that it is a fool’s errand, but my mind still tries to achieve for perfection (it’s okay, as long as I don’t waste too much time/effort).

For me, starting a project is hard. Once I start it, it’s much easier to stick to it and finish it 😀

Anyways, thank you for sharing these tips 🙂 Appreciate it!

    1. Hi Jeevan,

Good to see you my friend.

I certainly know the feeling, bro. Interestingly enough, my next blog post ties in quite nicely with your situation, I think. I was intending to get it out last Thursday but various circumstances have delayed it so it will be out tomorrow now instead. Look out for it, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it! 🙂

    1. Hi Lubano,

      Welcome to my blog. 🙂

I love the concept of ready, fire aim! If I hadn’t broken away from trying to get everything in place first then I’d still likely be in the same position now that I was before i got started – hunting around for a magic solution whilst get nowhere and doing nothing.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment, buddy.

  3. Hey Glenn…good stuff! Inactivity is definitely a success killer. Another enemy that people often face goes along with fear. It is doubt or negative thinking.

That also makes action impossible. If you don’t stay focused on why you are taking on these challenges, then it is easy to stay on the couch and make excuses why you don’t want to do anything towards your goals.

When times get tough and motivation is low…remember why you are doing this. Why do you want success online? Why do you want financial independence?

  4. Hey Glenn,

It was last year that I was learning about writing headlines from Jon Morrow when he said it was okay to steal other people’s stuff. I was kind of floored by that at first but the bottom line was that all the ideas about almost anything you can imagine has already been done. So why try to reinvent the wheel but to take what has come before you that has been successful and tweak it to make it your own. Of course he was talking headlines but it’s like anything else.

Like the product I’m creating right now. Sure, there is probably stuff out there already and it’s nothing really new that I’m sharing but it’s my experience, it’s my results and it’s told my way. People like to learn from different people.

I’ll use the example of going to a Mexican restaurant. I have my favorite but that doesn’t mean I don’t like to eat at others. What would have happened if the people who own the one I love said there are too many of them around so I’m not going to open one. I would have not had this awesome experience although there are millions of them everywhere in my city.

I say go for it and don’t beat yourself up because I’m sure everyone will put their own spin on it but you’ve definitely got to take that action. Trust me, it’s fun. 😉

    1. Hi Adrienne,

Yes, I remember that from Jon Morrow – I think I probably read it on your blog at the time. Things work because, well, they work! So if something is a proven method or formula then it just makes sense to copy it. It goes without saying that it needs to be your original work, but when we look at most things they’ve already been done by someone else.

I like your example of the Mexican restaurant, that’s so spot on. You could apply that reasoning to pretty much anything and it’s good to bear this in mind. You definitely need to just go for it and even if doesn’t do so well, then you learn from it and try again!

Thanks Adrienne, I hope your product creation is going well. 🙂

  5. Very true Glenn.

    Need reminders like this.

More than that, it’s having a specific goal towards which we take focussed action.

Vision based goal setting and action is what’s slowly helping me make progress without jumping around too much. 🙂

Thanks again buddy for the value that you provide with such reminders to all of us. 🙂

    1. Hey Ben,

Yes indeed, a specific goal is absolutely essential. I’m glad your strategy is helping you to make progress. I have no doubt that you’ll continue to progress and you’ll see some great things happen. Keep at it! 🙂

  6. Hi Glenn,

    Great post there buddy!

I remember when I first started out trying to make money online, I think I must have bought about 4 or 5 products and all I did was just read them or watched the video training, guess how much money I made using those methods… Yep, you got it, a big fat ZERO, not because the courses were rubbish, but because I took no action!

I find it remarkable the amount of people who don’t take action!?! Of course I always do now and I think there are many reasons too, I agree with you about fear and doubt; fear of failure, fear of people seeing your failure and the doubt kicks in, will this really work, will I be able to quit my job in no time, can I do it… maybe if I do nothing I can’t fail at it!!!

Like you say, don’t get it perfect, just get it done! Failures are also learning curves, if something doesn’t work you know not to do it that why again and find a solution!

Looking forward to you next post Glenn.

    Best regards

    John.

    1. Hey John,

Yep, I’m guilty of the same thing – it’s only sticking with one thing and taking consistent action that has yielded any results for me.

It is amazing just how many people don’t take action. I can understand it to some degree when they’ve acquired free info or products that weren’t too expensive. but when they’re paying thousands on things and STILL not taking action on it, well that’s something I just don’t get! But it does happen. Bizarre.

Thanks John. I’ll be putting my next post up later today, hope you enjoy it. 🙂

That being said, I’m more than happy to help any of you guys who are new to the QSC and working through it.

I really hope you’re enjoying the course so far. Just follow the instructions, stick with it and never give up and you’ll be sure to see results. 🙂

All the best, mate and don’t forget to give me a shout if I can help in any way.
